We are incredibly proud to announce that our very own Ellie McClaren has been named a finalist in the Female Founder of the Year Award category at The Lloyds British Business Excellence Awards 2025.
This award celebrates dynamic female founders who have demonstrated visionary leadership, innovation, and a clear track record of success.
Since co-founding The Escapologist in 2017, Ellie has redefined the escape room and competitive entertainment landscape, blending immersive storytelling with cinematic design and a vibrant, inclusive atmosphere.
Under her leadership, we've grown from a single location operator to a multi-site brand occupying space in premium high footfall locations including Xscape Yorkshire, White Rose Shopping Centre in Leeds, and the Metrocentre in Gateshead. Our offering has increased to include 18 escape rooms and counting, competitive socialising activities, smoking cocktail and mixology experiences, and we’ve achieved record-breaking revenue growth.
This nomination is a testament not just to the success of The Escapologist, but to Ellie’s relentless drive, strategic outlook and unwavering commitment to building a business with purpose, heart and imagination.
In response to being named finalist, Ellie said “Being recognised on a national level for something I’ve poured my heart and soul into is incredibly validating. This journey has been filled with challenges, but also immense joy. I’m proud of what we’ve built and even prouder of the team who help bring our vision to life every day.”
We’re thrilled to see Ellie’s leadership and impact celebrated on this scale, and we can’t wait to see what’s next!
